How to resize / extend primary partition in Windows / Server

Windows Vista onwards, you can use the Windows Disk Manager (Control Panel -> Administrator Tools -> Manage Computer -> Disk Manager). The only requirement is that there is unallocated disk space next to Primary Partition (C) on the physical disk.
